Batumi Port — Underwater Welding
Underwater Welding at the Batumi Seaport
The brief
Underwater welding works at the Batumi International Seaport (2019) — one of ERTI's most technically distinct projects, demonstrating the company's capability in specialist marine engineering alongside its primary foundation and sheet piling services. The Black Sea port environment introduced unique challenges of depth, current, and marine corrosion.

The challenge
Underwater welding in an active commercial seaport requires certified divers with specialist welding qualifications, precise work coordination to minimise port downtime, and strict safety protocols for working in turbid Black Sea conditions. The marine environment accelerates corrosion and complicates quality inspection of completed welds.
Our approach
ERTI coordinated the deployment of specialist underwater welding teams to the Batumi seaport, executing the structural weld programme within the operational constraints of the port schedule. Work was sequenced to limit impact on vessel movements while maintaining full compliance with the technical weld specifications.
