Sheet piling is a construction method using interlocking steel sheets driven into the ground to create retaining walls, foundation supports, and flood barriers. Steel sheet piles come in Z and U shapes and offer maximum strength with low weight, durability, and continuous wall sections with closely fitting joints.

What is Giken silent piling?

Giken silent piling is a vibration-free and noise-free pile installation method developed in Japan in 1967 and brought to market in 1975. It works by using the reaction force of previously installed piles to press new piles into the ground, eliminating dynamic impact on surrounding soil, structures, and buildings. It's environmentally friendly and suitable for sensitive urban environments.

What is the difference between Z-piles and U-piles?

Z-piles have an extremely competitive section modulus-to-mass ratio with increased inertia and large width for high installation performance. U-piles offer a wide range of sections for technically and economically optimized choices, great wave depth with high flange thickness, and can be assembled into pairs for better installation quality. Both are steel sheet pile types used in retaining walls and foundation works.

What soil conditions can the Giken Silent Piler work in?

The Giken Silent Piler works in most soil conditions except solid rock. Standard configuration handles up to 20 SPT (Standard Penetration Test). With a water jet attachment, it handles up to 50 SPT. With an auger head, it handles 50 SPT and above.

Why is silent piling used near historical monuments?

Silent piling produces no vibration and no dynamic impact on the ground or surrounding structures, making it the only safe piling method near cultural heritage monuments, museums, hospitals, or fragile existing buildings. What piling methods does ERTI use?

ERTI uses three piling methods: (1) Press-in / Silent Piling — vibration-free, ideal for sensitive sites; (2) Vibration piling — fast and economical for soft soils; (3) Percussion — for hard soils or deep penetration. ERTI owns two Giken Silent Pilers from Japan and one conventional press-in piler.
